Are You A Merciful Person?

    ⁷ Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

                                                                                                                            ~ Matthew 5:7

I) What is mercy?

    1) Mercy is a Godlike quality.

⁴ But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, ⁵ made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions— it is by grace you have been saved. ⁶ And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, ~ Ephesians 2:4-6

    2) Mercy is a Christlike quality.

¹⁷ For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. ~ Hebrews 2:17

    3) Mercy is love in action.

II) Why show mercy?

1) God has shown me mercy.

³³ Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow- servant just as I had on you?’ ~ Matthew 18:33

2) It makes me happy.

¹⁷A kind man benefits himself, but a cruel man brings trouble on himself. ~ Proverbs 11:17

III) How to show mercy?

1) I will be patient with people.

¹⁴ And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone. ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:14

2) I will be forgiving.

¹³ Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. ~ Colossians 3:13

3) I will help people in need.

¹⁷ If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? ¹⁸ Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. ~ 1 John 3:17-18
